Well isn't it odd how life can throw you a curve every now and then,
I came home from work yesterday to notice that Bubba, my Eclectus
parrot didn't seem to be his normal self. He wasn't interested in food
which is very unusual for him. So I whisked him off to the vet. Our old
vet had pasked up and moved so I found a wonderful new Vet in Bothell.
He was terrific and fit me in the same day and even stayed well past
closing time running tests and helping my little boy.
His office is brand new in town and so I'm going to give him a shameless
plug here

Let me tell you this guy is fantastic. He really took the time to
explain everything to me and I am so glad he is local.

There aren't that many really good top avian vets around.
My poor Bubba isn't doing so well, I'm still waiting on some lab
results to get a final diagnoses but his liver isn't doing that great
and a part of his stomach or gizzard is enlarged. He may just be a
parrot but he is one of my child substitutes and I love him dearly. the
good news is that Dr Maas seems to think this is something that is
treatable. Of course now I have to give him some medications which he is
really not happy about.
Allthough I can say I am thrilled with Dr Maas, I think Bubba hates his
guts.
My little guy is very food oriented, he loves to eat, jsut about
anything. So his vet has recommended a diet high in carbohydrates and
protien. So Mr Bubbs will be very happy to have a menu of pasta,
meat,cheese and other goodies.
Bubba is about 6 years old and I have had him since he was a chick. I
bought him from the breeder when he was just an egg. He is my Mr Mellow.
He's the gentlest of all my birds. I don't think he has ever bitten me
in anger, allthough he certainly will growl at me. He doesn't fly but he will not hesitate to walk from one end of the house to the other looking for me.

He was very attached to my Mom when she was alive. Since she was home
all day with him they bonded closely. He used to talk a lot but when Mom
died he stopped chatting so much and doesnt say as much as he used to. Sometimes when he would be looking for me my Mom would tell him to call his "mama" and he would call for me by saying"Maaaamaaa"
Still to this day I will sometimes here him call for me using my mothers voice. He will call for Lenny my Brussles Griffon who passed away a few years ago. Bubba has been with me through alot.
At least he seems a little bit better today, getting medicine down him will be a challenge but if it will help him get better...he's young for a parrot, he's only 6 and they can live 50 years or more. I hope and pray I have many more years with him on my shoulder.

You know we're sending positive energy for Bubba and you. I'm looking forward to giving him a visit soon.
