Farm and Fiber Fun!
This will be the first of many posts about my rescent doings. Sis in law Barba and I went down to the Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival in Canby last weekend. On the way we stopped at her family farm where I got to live a long cherished dream. Above is Lily the Jersey milk cow and below is her baby Honey saying Hi!

Barbs broter and sis in law were kind enough to let me take a crack at milking the cow. I'm a city girl who wishes she was a country one, even if it does mean seeing stars! The first thing I learned was that cow teats do not need to be pointing downward in order to work. They will work no matter which direction you point them in. Now if you ask me my complexion is much improved after my farm milk facial : )

At least here I manage to get the milk in the bowl. It's a lot fo fun especially if you have a nice obliging cow but your hand do get tired after awhile. Then you can resort to more modern methods. Lily was very sweet and patient with me and her milk sure is delicious. Her owners also make home made butter and lots of different cheeses.

This is a little Bantam hen that used to live with me but due to her and her sisters many escape escapades they now live happily down on the farm. Evidently from the looks of things she has been busy!

This is little Paverotti the beef calf, so named because he was born on the day the great singer passed away. He was very friendly and loved to run around and play.

After spending the night at the farm we made our way down to the Canby fairgrounds. This year we camped out in the pine grove which is very nice being right next to the barn toilets and showers. Our friends Sam and Jen drove down to pitch a tent next door and Lo and her hubby were nearby in their camper. Plus we also got to meet up with old friends Sheila and Michael.
We alos made new friends this year too, last year it took 3 women 2 hours and several tools to open a bottle of wine, this year 4 women did battle with a 30 year old tent. Finally with the help of our fellow camper Anthony we managed to get the tent together in the dark.

I think everyone had an absolute blast at OFF. I did my part to support the Off and fiber economy by power shopping. Plus there were lots of sheep, bunnies and even Yaks and Camels.
I'll be getting even more pictures up shortly
