Chicks!!
Patches is excited to share his room with the new arrivals

The baby chicks arrived today with everyone alive and doing pretty well so far. the box was peeping pretty loudly when the mailman brought them.

They came in a carefully packed box with a little heater handwarmer type packet and as soon as they were put in the brooder under the heat lamp everyone perked right up and started pecking at food.

The multicolored chicks are the Cuckoo Marans that lay real dark brown eggs. I think I have one Blue Austrolorp and One Blue and one White Cochin.
I got these from Mypetchicken.com and I am really pleased, they all seem healthy. I was a little worried since I had been reading stories and rumours on the net about another well known hatchery that delivers live chicks that has been having problems with more than the usual amount of chicks not surviving.

these are the youngest chicks I have ever had. The ones before had been at the feed store a while before I took them home. These are smart little guys, all I had to do was tap the little food tray with my finger and everyone gathered around and started pecking too! I have a regular waterer in there and also a small bowl of warm water with sugar. For now they are having fun jumping in and out of it.

Hannah is real curious about the chicks. I have to stop her from crawling right in there with them
