Yes, This is it. This is the $468.00 egg. After 4 days at the vets Miss Hannah finally managed to lay her egg. She is scheduled for a hysterectomy to remove her avain ovaries.
Up until now she would lay maybe one egg a year and have no trouble with it. But for some reason her hormones are in overdrive so to prevent her from having any more trouble in the future she's going to get fixed.
It's hard to say wether this whole ordeal has been harder for her or me...I have been a wreck without my baby.

Fall is here...The garden was pretty good this summer. My tomatoes and corn didn't do that well but had plenty of squash, zukes and potatoes. Even got a couple of little sugar pumpkins.
The apple and pears trees did well.

The chickens are happy they get to spend more time out in the big yard. The babies are bigger than the Big Betties now. So far I have been getting about 4-5 eggs a day.
They are smart birds. I have always used a big plastic bowl fro kitchen scraps for them. Every day they have seen me give them scraps from it. Several times I have let them out into the backyard forgetting the bowl up on the deck. The first thing they do is run right to the bowl and look in it for thier treats.

Here they are. Yes they're chickens and yes they are eating apple pie.
