Have you greased your chickens yet?
Let it snow let it snow let it snow! We don't get much of the white stuff around here and when we do we all tend to go thick in the head and everything comes to a screeching halt. Meanwhile those hardy souls who have lived in areas of the country where they get "real" snow stand back in awe of our stupidity.
Oh look! A blizzard lets leave the car here right in the middle of the road and then walk right down the middle of the road home! Let's try to drive our little 2 door compact car up that huge
hill!!!!!

No problem! This is the winterwonderland that is my backyard, my part of the backyard, not the chickens...
Anyway, it is very beautiful out, there's nothing like the quitness it brings when it falls and covers everything.
I am lucky enough to have a big brother with a big ol'truck and he drove my sil and me into to work today since we work in the same complex. So we trucked in today and even so it was pretty slick out there. They are predicting another blizzard of epic proportions tonight, either that or it's going to just plain old rain. Who the hell knows, the weathermen sure don't.
I stayed home yesterday, then I felt guilty knowing there weren't very many people at the office so I had a stab at coming in. I made it down to the gas station, got gas and diet coke and got only about a quarter of the way there when I changed my mind and turned around and headed home. Hell, at least it's some excitement.

This is after I had the commute from hell on Monday. Not as bad as some in the news but sucky enough. It usually takes me 20 minutes tops to get home from work. On Monday it took over 2 hours. I honestly don't know how those Montanians do it.
It's so cold I almost considered greasing up my chickens, I hear you are supposed to rub vasoline on thier combs and waddles to help prevent frostbite. I'd get frostbite myself trying to catch all the little buggars to do that. It's the babies first snow. I keep calling them the babies even though they are my largest chickens. Anyhoo they were pretty shy about coming out of the coop and judging from the chicken tracks in the snow tonight no one wandered very far from home. My little Bantams were't bothered a bit but scratched around for a little while and then went inside to keep warm.

Ps. Watch out for that yellow know, unlike the Abomidable snowbeast it really does exist!

It was fun being snow bound a couple days :-) Glad you didn't have to grease the chickens this time, but next time you/they might not get off so lucky!
