We're baaaaaaaaaaack
We're back from our jaunt across the pond, we had a great time along with a few mishaps. I took a ton of pictures that I'll put on here. It may take a few blog enteries to get it all on here though!
We left without a hitch last Saturday. When we landed at Heathrow we found that the night before they had a bad snowstorm and the airport was in chaos. There were 8 planes ahead of us waiting for gates to open up. So we had to wait on the plane for a bout 2 hours. We had left 4 hours to get from the airport to the train station in order to catch our train to York. Well, due to the plane delay we just missed that tran by a few minutes..ok no biggie, we had travel insurance so we'll just try to get the next train to York.
(Turns out the travel insurance only applies if your a resident of the UK) Ok, so we get another set of tickets for York, we walk aroud the station waiting when we notice Yikes! That train was now cancelled due to mechanical problems....so back in line and we are told in order to get our money back for the cancelled train we have to fill out forms and send then off to some myseterious place called "Grand Central" So we then buy our 3rd pair of tickets. Finally we get on the train, only to discover the train was oversold ( this is British rail we're talking about here so that's no suprise) No seats left so it's standing room only for the 2 hour ride.
At least the scenery was very pretty on the ride up. So we finally got to York, tired hungary and much later than we had planned. We stayed at a terrific Bed and Breaskfast called The Hazelwood. The people there was great and the room was lovely. So we wandered around town and finally found a restaurant that was open late on Sunday and had a nice meal.
The next day we hit the York history museum. If you want a closer look just click to enlarge the pictures
Below is a typical Yorkshire country cottage interior, notice the wheel!
This is a typical victorian interior, notice the stuffed parrot on the piano, it had the title Polly Littlepet on it
Below is a typical English kitchen interior circa 1930 or so
And an older kitchen
An even older kitchen.....note the early version of the Ronco Rotisserie!!
And and even older kitchen...slash witches cauldren..
Three guesses as to what this is...and if you really do need all three well then ..
