We drove down on Friday and on the way we stopped off at the Oregon Maritime Museum, pretty cool, lots of boat stuff, we also toured the lightship
Columbia. We then drove on to Fort Steven, I have to say out of all the forts around here that I have seen I like this one the best.
Mostly becuase there is so much of it left. We spent some time wandering around the grounds. Even found several little birds nests with babies in them in some of the bunkers. I think they were some kind of swallow? Mom and Dad were not happy with me taking pictures of thier babies.
There's also a small military museum there. There were some parts of the fort that were pretty spooky, the pictures below were taken in complete darkness. The only way to see where you were going was to take a picture!
We also visited the beach with this really old shipwreck on it. It's amazing it's still here being as old as it is.
Here is one of the views from the condo
By the sea....
We went to the dinky little ancient aquarium in Seaside. They have seals that you can feed. A dollar huys you a cut up sardine and once you get close enough you get quite a show, they rock they roll and slap themselves ( really they do) and will even drench you to get your attention. The funny thing was once your bit of fish was all gone they were all gone too. With all the activity and slippery sardine fingers I am afraid I didn't get any pictures
I did however capture this large Octopus....if you look at the picture long enough it looks like a painting by Klimnt
More peaceful waves...
On our way home after a hearty breakfast at McMinamins we stopped at Captain Flavels Mansion. I love these house museums. This one was very well done, not too overcrowded and they even had the carraige house complete with the original sleigh.
The house was large, the rooms had high ceilings and very ornate fireplaces. Allthough it didn't have much of the original furniture it was well decorated. Sometimes they stuff so much that you can't really see any details of the rooms. This place had the most beautiful door hinges I think I've ever seen.
the breakfast room
I can easily imagine the captains two daughters coming down these stairs for tea with friends.
All in all we had a very nice relaxing weekend...untill the check engine light came on on the car when were were stuck in horrendous traffic on the way home. In other news the car is working again, the squash overfloweth and the air is full of the clucks of young hens laying thier very first egg.
