This was our very nice room at the Hazelwood B &B. The people there were terrific, great breakfast too, aside from the blood sausage.
We also saw The Barley Hall. This was a medieval house or hall with some orignal parts dating back as far as the year 1360. Over time it had been covered up and in the late 80's the York trust bought it and after doing archaeological investigations they restored it. This place was great because it was very hands on, you could touch stuff and sit on the furniture and even try on costumes. As it is now, it is set up to depict a typical medieval home in the year 1483. So of course I was thrilled to see not just 2 great wheels but fiber, combs and a spindle!
There was also a small castle style wheel that kinda looked like they just stuck it in there to hide the fire extinguisher.
I especially liked this coat of arms, I should adopt it as my own and call it "the pissed off parrot" coat of arms
This place had the most unusual thing, a window made out of boiled cow horn! They used to boil cow horns until they were soft and then they could flatten them out and they were transparent enough to use to make a window. This is believed to be the only remaining window of this kind left in England
